We were all packed up and ready to move onto Nossob by 7h30

It was rather chilly but once again I was too excited to care. First of all we checked for the leopard and cub but once again we were disappointed. The road was still quite full of water. http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=4v6yhxs
There were many animals around but they basically took one look at us and disappeared. http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=5ylb77l
We got as far as Rooiputs without seeing a single cat track in the road. We decided to go and see what Rooiputs campsite looks like….rather interesting ablution facilities. I made SO go in first to check for creepy crawlies or any other four footed creatures that may be lurking around...all was clear. http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=4qenl0m
We moved onto Melkvlei where we had breakfast. Yet again I saw the Ludwigs bustards along the way but no opportunities for photos. Jan se Draai yielded a eland carcass and nothing else . We then saw 2 tortoises at Kameelsleep. I thought you weren’t supposed to see tortoises in winter!
By now I was really beginning to wonder where all the cats were…we had not seen any tracks at all. As we left Dikbaardskolk picnic spot we saw an adult Bateleur. Well, he flew off before I could even think photo. Soon after we spent a few minutes watching a mole snake trying to get up the sand embankment. This was a first for us...we had not seen a mole snake in KTP before. I was also very surprised to see a snake in mid winter. At least this was some excitement! http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=4uert5y
Just before Kaspersdraai we saw a family of bat- eared foxes but yet again too far away for any photos. This was getting a bit frustrating. As we were almost approaching Kameelsleep we saw some Eland. We had not seen Eland since our very first visit to the park in 2000. Yet again they took off. We continued to Marie se Gat. Surely there must be something waiting for us there. Two more bat-eared foxes and two Martial eagles flying above us and that was all.

We arrived at Nossob at 14h00. It must have been one of the quietest drives that we had ever had from TR to Nossob. Oh well, some you lose and some you win!

The hawk in question appears to be a African Marsh Harrier. Afrikaanse Vleivalk
Thanks for that...but my bird book tells me that one does not find African Marsh Harriers in Kgalagadi...do you think it may be a vagrant????
