We moved onto Kannaguass where we saw warthog in the distance. I also noticed a blackish raptor flying around but was unable to id it. The only thing I could say for sure is that it seemed to have white shoulder patches when it was flying. While we were stopped at Kannaguass a car drove up to us and asked the usual question…have you seen anything???? They told us about a hyena’s den near Leiersdraai. They were off to look for it. I then gave up on the id of the bird and we set off to find the hyena’s den. Well no such luck. When we got back to camp I was having withdrawal symptoms because I had not taken many photos. So I went to play with the camp critters.

Then I took a couple of photos of Monty and immediately felt better.

Incidently other visitors were interested to know where we had collected all the mud on Monty. They had no idea that it had rained so hard down south. We decided to drive to Marie se Gat in the afternoon . There were many antelope around …but that was about it. I also eventually identified a little bird that had been confusing me for a day or two….a brubru. New one for me! We slowly made our way back to camp and even though we had not had many major sightings we had throroughly enjoyed our day. A visit to the waterhole in the evening revealed bat eared foxes and jackals but no owls this time. We spent a pleasant evening braaing and chasing away the jackals.

The next morning we would tackle the Bitterpan trail…was I nervous.??? No, of course not…..Monty had not fallen apart on the horrible corrugations so I was quite sure it would not fall apart on the dune road !!!
